Vintage Stores in Rome

Abiti Usati Vintage is exactly how I like my vintage stores - packed to the brim with beautiful fur coats, sequin dresses, fedoras, shoes and designer bags. Oh, and if you’re looking for a pair of Converse you’ve come to the right place. Situated on Via del Governo Vecchio, it is a little tricky to find but once you’re there you will be tempted to stay for hours and try on every piece. They even have a really good selection of men’s jackets in the form of Barbour, denim and military to keep the boyf well entertained while you choose the perfect ensemble.

Just a little down the road from Abiti Usati is Vestiti Usati Cinzia or “Cinzia”, a little boutique-style vintage store – something I’m not really keen on – but nonetheless has really beautiful and lust-worthy pieces. Most of which are too beautiful to sell, unfortunately. I saw the most amazing pair of crochet bikinis (although a little too risqué for my taste) a sequin brassiere (which my lovely friend back in London would go nuts for) and a stunning crochet sun-hat with flower appliqué which I instantly fell in love with – it truly spoke to the inner hippie in me, until I realised that it wasn’t for sale. Cinzia is not exactly how I like my vintage but is certainly well worth the visit.

Rome

Rome is one of my favourite cities in the world – so much so that it has been my second visit in as many years. I love Rome for it’s richness in history, it’s passion and it’s romance. Even though last year I went to all the historical sites with my mum, I felt that once was not enough. I ended up seeing all the major sites in just one day (walking – mind you) and sparing enough time to look up some of Rome’s finest vintage stores, which I will be posting shortly.

Cinque Terre

To celebrate my birthday a few weekends ago, the boyf and I left Spain for Italy and we headed straight to Riomaggiore, the start (or end) of the Cinque Terre. I have wanted to walk the Cinque Terre from when I was in Pisa last which was about two years ago, when I first heard about the incredible view. And it is one incredible view! We based ourselves in Riomaggiore but caught the train to Monterosso where we began the trek. I’m not going to lie but the track from Monterosso to Vernazza is probably the most challenging of them all and to make it even more challenging for myself I walked the entire thing in my black havianas as I didn’t pack any suitable shoes (although I probably wouldn’t suggest that this is the best idea unless you like stubbing your toes at regular intervals). Needless to say, the view from the top is utterly breathtaking and I would walk it one hundred times over just to see it again. And it’s not just the view that is worth the visit to the Cinque Terre it’s all the little villages in between that make it magical. In my opinion Vernazza is certainly the most picturesque of them all – but you can write your own reviews.

Best of Milan Fashion Week AW11

Seeing as though one show has triumphed over the rest at Milan Fashion Week AW11, I feel there’s really no need to feature a top three.

Gucci
Quite possibly the best show of the season. Full Stop. What isn’t to love about the entire Gucci AW11 Collection? Continuing with their bold colour pallet stemming from their SS11 collection and with inspirations coming from Anjelica Huston and Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine, Gucci is all about the strong, self-assured woman.

I’ve been eyeing up the pussy-bow blouses, the fedoras, fur, sheer gowns, and python leather in eye-opening colours such as emerald greens and vivid blues and reds. Frida Giannini is an absolute genius with an amazing talent for mixing unorthodox hues together to create an unforgettable outfit. While the collection referenced the 70s (like many of their counterparts this season) the shock value wasn’t there but there is no mistaking the yearning for and wearability of this collection, which has undeniably set my pulse racing.
