easyJet Holidays Launch Party

On Wednesday night, I was lucky enough to be invited to celebrate the launch of easyJet Holidays in West London.  After I collected my customised “passport” I was taken on a whirlwind tour to five of easyJet’s top holiday destinations (including Paris, Italy, Spain, Northern Africa, Scandinavia and Greece) where I got to sample the amazing food and drink of each destination. From mini pizzas in Italy, to falafels and pitta bread in Northern Africa the food was seriously delicious. However, during the night I could see myself getting more and more drawn to the likes of Greece where I sipped away on Mojitos and Cosmos and refreshed my pallet with a glass of divine French wine. The lure of Scandinavia was quite tempting however, when Vodka shots are the only thing on the menu, I had to keep my distance. After all, it was still only a Wednesday night!

Best of Paris Fashion Week AW11

Gosh, I love Paris Fashion Week. You should have seen my list of potential designers to write about –but I have managed to whittle it down to just three. So here are my picks for Best at Paris Fashion Week AW11.

Alexander McQueen

With such big shoes to fill, it certainly doesn’t look like Sarah Burton is in any way shying away from the legacy she’s inherited. With such a theme as “The Ice Queen and her court” Burton drew inspiration from the McQueen estate silhouettes with the use of silk, organza and tulle that evoked intentional disturbing associations. However, there is also a softness within this collection as seen on the divine fur-like organza lined edges. With such rumours that Kate Middleton will be wearing McQueen for her upcoming wedding, I would personally love to see her push the boundaries and wear the amazing gown with a bodice made from broken china and a cascading organza skirt. 

Gareth Pugh

I quite like that Gareth Pugh never titles his collections – it’s more a reference to a “flow of ideas”. His AW11 collection was dramatic in its futuristic outlook combining his strict silhouettes with something which is new from him this season and that’s fluidity. Something else that is new to the House of Pugh was the injection of colour in the form of cobalt blue. Is this a direction that we will be seeing Pugh progress into? As we all know he’s conquered black with such a vengeance. I have always loved Pugh’s collections not only for the dramatics of the show but more for the intensity of his shapes. 

Haider Ackermann

Romance was certainly in the air at Haider Ackermann’s AW11 runway show in Paris. Using a softer pallet and stronger materials, Ackermann created a collection that had a more masculine approach to a reserved form of opulence - a far cry from the navel plunging gowns and exquisite eveningwear of SS11. The seductive use of draping, tucking and pinning has got me enchanted, unequivocally.

Tignes les Brevières, France

Now that all the hubbub of London Fashion Week has ended, I can now reminisce about my ski trip to France, which actually, looking back now, feels like forever ago. I'm also hoping that this post is going to alleviate my post holiday blues - fingers crossed. 

The week began and ended with beautiful weather - the sun was shinning, I was working on my (goggle) tan (at this stage of the game, I will take any kind of sunshine), brilliant company, lovely, cosy chalet and don't even get me started on the food. My diet for the week mainly consisted of potatoes and cheese - bliss. Even though there was a lack of fluffy powder, we more than made up for it with great company and way to many mars bar flavoured vodka shots.

Après Ski Dreams

In one week and one day (not that I’m counting), I’ll be saying a big sayonara grey, cloudy skies of London and hello fresh snow of Tignes, France. This year, my boyfriend and I will be going to the snow with a big group of friends where we have a chalet in the mountains all to ourselves. YES! I’m already melting at the thought of coming home from a hard day on the slopes to a log-lit fire, some warm hot chocolate and devouring a very large portion of Tartiflette. Not to mention engaging myself in some crazy après ski action!! And it’s only fair to say that I have been planning my chalet  wardrobe for months now which consists mainly of charcoal grey cable knits, a lot of fairisle in deep burgundy and navy and of course my trusty Uggs.
